1941 Conn 6M VIII Alto Saxophone, Rolled Tone Holes, Just Serviced, Video
1941 295,xxx Conn 6M VIII alto saxophone. Here's a 6M that has a double socket neck, rolled tone holes, and a working microtuner. The previous owner had recently overhauled the sax, and the pads are in like new condition. My repairman serviced the sax prior to sale, so the pads are sealing well and the horn plays without effort from top to bottom. Altissimo seems especially effortless and carefree with this horn. Placement of these top notes seem more forgiving than most horns. The neck has the matching VIII stamp that is also present on the body of the sax. The lacquer seems not original, but it was redone a long time ago.
This is a great sounding 6M. It has and warmth and openness that is unrivaled by any other model out there. The curve of the neck invites you to hold the sax a bit closer than you would with a Selmer of the same vintage, which makes playing it feel a bit more intimate. I think this is a great horn, and nothing comes close to its complexity and personality in this price point.
