Selmer Super Sax Alto Saxophone, Fresh Overhaul, Video
1931 Selmer Super Sax alto saxophone, s/n 14617. This saxophone was recently acquired from the wife of the original owner, who was a professional musician based in New Orleans. When I received the sax, it had an old set of pads but the condition of the horn was excellent. I sent it out to Eric Beach for a full mechanical overhaul, who is one of the best repairmen in the business. He fitted the sax with Pisoni Pro pads. Eric's keywork is excellent, and the action feels smooth and efficient. The sax has a gorgeous vintage patina that appears to be an old relacquer, done quite well. The sax comes in a vintage case.
This sax has a gorgeous tone that has more warmth and spread than more modern Selmers. Its response is excellent from top to bottom, and low Bb to high F speak effortlessly.
