This is a setup that has been used very little in its lifetime. The sax arrived with original pads and my tech replaced nine of them. The sax seals and plays with ease from top to bottom. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThe Varitone system still works, although I think it would benefit from some tweaking from an experienced tech. There is a slightly audible feedback loop in the speaker that improves when the sax is plugged in. The octamatic system works, giving the sax an extra lower octave when played. However, I don't hear an audible difference with the four effect switches when they are on. The system still works with the important octamatic feature as well as amplification, but I believe the other effects are missing. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eAlthough the sax works well plugged into the original amplifier, it is a fully functioning saxophone without the amp as well. The cord can be clipped to the saxophone and it functions and sounds like a Mark VI. He used Pisoni Pro pads. The neck is a solid silver King neck, although the serial number is not present on the neck. Because of this, we think that it is not original to the horn. However, it's a great match and fits the body of the horn perfectly. The gold lacquer on the neck is a very close match to the gold plating. The sax comes in a leather Oleg case that is a good match for the horn. However, please contact me if you're interested in upgrading to a new Bam case. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe horn has the big, lush sound this model is known for, with more finesse than most, which may be the gold plating. It is even and stable at low dynamics and opens up when pushed. It is the best Super 20 I have played. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI have done a bit of research regarding the identity of the original owner, and I have come up with nothing so far. It also has LP stamped below the serial number, indicating that it's low pitch, so it plays in tune with modern instruments. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis sax just came back from my repairman, who performed a fair amount of dent work and pad reseating. The horn is playing remarkably well and the low notes come out with ease and a ton of authority. The sax comes in a 1960's era Mark VI case which is in good condition and fits the sax well.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFor those unfamiliar with Jimmy Dorsey, he was an American jazz big band leader, composer and saxophonist. He had a vibrant career from the late 1920’s through the 1950’s, and is considered one of the most influential alto saxophone players of the big band and swing era. Dorsey and his band’s sax section played Selmer horns. He championed this specific crossover model, and also designed a “Jimmy Dorsey Signature” mouthpiece for Selmer in 1941.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAlthough the exact origin of the “Dorsey model” sax is historically murky, the horn itself clearly combines the previous keywork of the Radio Improved with the newer body tube of the Balanced Action. Two serial number ranges refer to this Dorsey model - 23xxx - 24xxx, produced in 1937 and 26xxx-28xxx, produced from 1938-1939. A few differences can be found between the two production runs.
