1962 100,xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone with approximately 97% original lacquer. The full serial number is 100099, so it's 100 horns away from being in 5-digit land. The sax just received a full overhaul from Aaron Barnard, who is one of the very best repairmen in the business. He uses top of the line materials including Pisoni Pro pads. His key fitting is excellent, so the action feels incredibly smooth, arguably better now than the day it left the factory.
This horn is remarkably clean for being 57 years old. The neck looks excellent and has never been bent down. It's original to the horn and has a matching serial number. The sax comes in the original case. It's in great condition and all three latches work.
1962 Mark VI tenors have become extremely desirable, and became more so when Chris Potter bought his Mark VI tenor that he currently plays on (his was made only a few months before this one). Selmer modified their design significantly around 105,xxx, so this is essentially a 5-digit tenor design, as it has the same neck and body design of 9x,xxx tenors.
This horn has a classic late 5-digit sound and feel to it. There's a tremendous depth and complexity to the tone, wrapped around a dark core. The horn sounds and responds so well that it's hard to put down.
