The 30M was never a stock item. It had to be specially ordered from the factory, and Conn built only about one 30M for every hundred 10M's made. Production ended when the factory converted to war work in the early 1940s, so the entire run lasted less than ten years. That makes the 30M one of the rarest professional American tenors of the golden era, and it is easily the most mechanically advanced saxophone Conn ever built.

The body and bore are the same as the 10M, so you get the same fat, spread, room filling sound that made the 10M famous. They uniquely straddle the bridge between vintage and modern. The F1 is one of Yamaha's early Custom necks, made from French style brass and offered only for tenor and soprano. It was never standard equipment on a US model and has been discontinued for years, so they're not easy to find, and gold plated examples are rarer still. Players seek them out for a centered, focused core with extra punch and projection in the upper register. On this 875, the F1 tightens up the sound and gives it a little more pop without losing the depth that makes these horns special. But that only tells half the story. Selmer used two medium bow lengths during this run. The initial medium bow was slightly longer and was used up until around s/n 201,xxx. After that, the bow became slightly shorter. Thanks to Douglas Pipher's work, you can identify the bow length from the logo design. Look closely and you'll see three wavy lines around the circled R on this sax. That means it's the slightly longer medium bow. Selmer removed the flourishes after 201,xxx to denote the shorter bow.

What does this mean in terms of playing characteristics?
