selmer-mark-vi-tenor-saxophone-70801
1957 70,xxx Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, 90% Original Lacquer, New Pads, Video Demo

1957 Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone, s/n 70801. This saxophone has its original lacquer with over 90% still present and is in great shape overall. The neck is original to the horn with a matching serial number, and the bell serial number matches as well.

The pads are new. They were installed for the previous owner shortly before DC Sax acquired the sax, and the horn was just serviced by my repairman prior to sale. The pads seal very well and the horn plays effortlessly down to low Bb.

The previous owner received this saxophone as a gift from his parents in 1961 and owned it ever since. In 1967 it was stolen from a college band storage room and recovered a few days later. The only damage was to the body serial number, which had been scratched off. The serial numbers on the neck and bell are intact and match. Because of the body stamp, the sale includes a signed letter of provenance on DC Sax letterhead certifying the chain of ownership, along with the previous owner's written account of the instrument's history, so the next owner has clear documentation.

This is a great sounding horn with the feel and complexity that make 5-digit tenors so sought after. It has a darker, complex core with the kind of power that the best tenors of this vintage are known for. The response is very even across the entire range, and it excels at every dynamic from the softest subtone to a full bore fortissimo.

The sax comes in the original Chesterfield case, in good condition. One of the zippers works and the other does not.
