1958 Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, s/n 74556. This sax has its original lacquer with 95%+ still present. It's a 5-digit medium bow horn, which is the most desirable vintage for Mark VI altos. These late 1950's medium bow horns are the type that players and collectors seek out first, and examples in this kind of condition don't come up often.
This sax sounds and feels quite different from the late 1960's medium bow altos. The sound is dark, powerful and focused. At the same time it has a wide range of tone colors available, so it feels very versatile. There's a lot of depth to this horn. The more time you spend with it, the more it has to give.
The neck is original to the horn with a matching serial number, and it has never been pulled down. There are no resolders, and the horn is very clean overall. It comes in its original Chesterfield case, which is missing one latch.
The previous owner had the sax overhauled shortly before DC Sax acquired it, so the pads are new. My repairman just serviced the horn prior to sale and made sure the pads seal well. It plays easily in all registers.
