1971 Selmer Mark VI soprano saxophone, s/n 195857. This sax was previously owned by a military band musician who plays in one of the DC jazz bands. It was overhauled in 2001 by Eric Beach, and is playing exceptionally well. The pads are still in like-new condition, and the horn seals beautifully from top to bottom. Eric's overhauls are top notch. He spends countless hours on key fitting, which gives the horn a tight, precise feel, like a saxophone fresh from the factory.

Mark VI sopranos have a distinct sound and feel, though the ergonomics can take some adjustment. Tedd added a few thoughtful customizations, including several key risers and an Oleg front F attachment. These can be removed if preferred, but I think they make the horn more comfortable and responsive in use.

This is a terrific-playing Mark VI soprano. The tone sits on the darker side for this model, but it opens up easily when pushed, giving plenty of projection and color. The horn feels balanced and plays evenly across the range, with a gorgeous, resonant voice that I find very satisfying to play.
