1959 81,xxx Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, Medium Bow, Original Lacquer
1958 Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, s/n 81348. The saxophone has its original lacquer with approximately 92% remaining. This is a rare 5-digit medium bow Mark VI alto. Selmer produced these for about a year before switching to a long bow. They eventually returned to the medium bow nearly a decade later, having found that this version had the best combination of intonation, sound and playability. These 5-digit medium bow altos have that killer sound that makes this vintage famous for both altos and tenors.
This sax is in fantastic playing condition. It appears to have the original set of screw-in metal resonators. The pads have been replaced and still have a lot of life left in them. My repairman just serviced the sax, so it's playing incredibly well and locked in. The neck is original to the horn and has a matching serial number. It has never been bent down.
