1965 123,xxx Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone Original Lacquer COLTRANE S/N
1965 Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone. This is a wonderful example of an original lacquer mark vi tenor from one of the best years that Selmer produced this model. In fact, this tenor sax was produced in the same year and factory as John Coltrane's Mark VI tenor, that he played on his later albums.
Cosmetically, this horn is about as good as it gets. There are few surface scratches, and no evidence of any dent repairs or trauma. The neck s/n is 122,xxx, which means it was produced within a month or two of the horn. Mismatched serial numbers between the horn and neck are rather common and could have been the result of the previous owner picking out the perfect neck for the horn. The results certainly speak for themselves, as the neck seems to be a great fit for this horn. The neck is in great condition; it's never been pulled down. However, look closely and you can see a very small, well repaired mic pickup patch.
The sax has a relatively recent overhaul, and the pads look like they're in perfect condition. The horn has metal resonators. It won't need anything for years if properly cared for.
