Near Mint 180,xxx Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone
180,xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone in near mint condition. I was blown away by this horn's condition, and then blown away again by how well it plays. It's hard to find any blemishes on this horn, because it is nearly perfect. It obviously spent the majority of its life in its case. There's something wonderful about playing Mark VI's in this condition, because you can get a sense of how these played straight from the factory. The action is superb, and the horn plays with an effortlessness that is uncommon in horns of this age. The pads are all original (although the neck cork was replaced). It was just regulated by DC's top repairman, so the original pads seal perfectly. My repairman was amazed by how well this horn plays, which is quite a compliment considering that he probably sees 30 pro horns a month.
This is a medium bow Mark VI, which is generally considered the best version of the Mark VI alto. Although all Mark VI's can be good horns, the long bow and short bow Mark VI's both struggled with intonation in the lower range. The medium bow, which this horn has, maintains the best intonation of any version. This is truly a world class horn, which could be at home in a concert hall, jazz club, or museum.
