Yanagisawa A-901 unlacquered alto saxophone, s/n 250437. This horn has a fairly rare unlacquered finish, typically available only by special order from the factory. I’m not certain whether this example left the factory unlacquered or was later stripped, but it has an attractive, naturally aged appearance that many players and collectors appreciate. The keys however are lacquered. The sax comes with a new Bam Conservatoire case.
The horn was recently serviced by my repairman, and the pads are sealing well with plenty of life remaining. Mechanically, it’s in excellent playing condition and ready for regular use.
The 901 series is Yanagisawa’s counterpart to the Yamaha 62, offering similar build quality and performance. It produces a clear, resonant sound across the full range, responds easily, and has excellent intonation. For the price, it’s a great choice for players seeking a professional-quality alto saxophone without breaking the bank.
