1931 Selmer Super Sax Tenor, S/N 15509. This is a Selmer Super Sax tenor from the Cigar Cutter era. While the alto models of this period featured an octave mechanism with a distinctive circular cutout resembling a cigar cutter, the tenors shared the overall design but typically lacked that specific mechanism.
This horn delivers a rich, wide sound with a darker tonal profile than later Selmer models, while still retaining the unmistakable Selmer timbre and response. It was recently serviced by my tech, who replaced two pads, seven key corks, and one felt. The remaining pads were regulated for a good seal, and the horn now speaks clearly across the full range. It comes in a padded ProTec case, which fits the reverse bell keys perfectly.
