Here is an original Otto Link double ring tenor saxophone mouthpiece with a 6 facing. It has never been refaced. It plays wonderfully as the video below can attest. This mouthpiece has a hairline crack at the base of the shank which is not uncommon with older Links like this. The crack appears to be on the original seam where the two halves of the mouthpiece join together.
After consulting several widely respected mouthpiece makers and refacers about this mouthpiece, I'm inclined to leave it alone. The crack seems stable as is. A clamp or a ring around the shank is also possible for those who really want extra support and stabilization, but probably not necessary.
