Selmer Super Action 80 alto saxophone, s/n 335128. The Super Action 80 was released after the Mark VI and VII models. Some refer to this model as a Series I, but its official name is a Super Action 80. These are fabulous horns that are a bit overlooked, since relatively few were made. It’s an interesting playing horn that is unlike any other Selmer model. They tend to have a more focused and compact sound than a Series II, but are on the darker side. For this reason, I think they make a fabulous crossover horn that can do both classical and jazz equally well. It’s as easy to make this horn sing with a New York Meyer as it is with a Selmer Concept mouthpiece. Few horns can do this as well as a Series I.

This sax was recently overhauled by Emilio Lyons. The pads are still in excellent shape and have years of life left in them. Emilio also added some ergonomic key touches which makes the horn very comfortable to hold and play. My tech just serviced the horn prior to sale, so the pads are sealing perfectly. This horn feels incredibly locked in, and is one of my favorite Series 80 altos I've ever tried. The horn can project with ease, yet has an incredibly stable tone in softer dynamic levels. It's a very fun horn to pick up and play.
