1959 82,xxx Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, Brecker S/N, Video, Overhaul, Original Lacquer
Here’s a stunning example of a Brecker era 5-digit Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone, serial number 82050. This horn comes from the legendary 8x,xxx serial range, a vintage long associated with Michael Brecker and other tenor giants. These horns have become some of the most sought after Mark VI tenors ever made, and for good reason.
This particular horn has its original lacquer, with approximately 90% still present. It includes the original matching serial number neck. It was recently overhauled by the previous owner and is playing with remarkable clarity and balance across all registers.
Tonally, this horn truly lives up to its reputation. It has a lush, dark core that leans vocal rather than aggressive. It's not an in your face horn like many later VI's. Instead, it offers a beautiful, resonant sound that feels rich and expressive. It takes air very naturally, and you can shape your tone with ease, whether you're playing in a section or stepping out front.
This is a tenor that has both nuance and power. it sits comfortably in the pocket, but when you lean in, it opens up with tremendous presence and depth. These horns rarely come up for sale, and they don’t tend to stick around long.
