140,xxx Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, MINT, Sanborn S/N, WOW
Wow...a nearly 100% mint condition Sanborn era Mark VI alto saxophone. I didn't think I'd ever see a Mark VI in this condition, let alone in this serial number range. Before I saw this horn with my own eyes, I knew that this would be special, as the springs in the case latch opened with quick, tight action. The saxophone inside looks equally impressive. I've never seen such a clean Mark VI saxophone. There are no dents and the pads look like they've barely been used. The action feels like a new horn. Very tight and even throughout the range. There are some light surface scratches on the bell and I see one very small blemish on the bow. Otherwise, this is a museum piece. A closet queen if I've ever seen one. Take a close look at all of the pictures and you can see how amazing this sax is.
This sax is being offered with everything seen in the pictures. It comes with the original Tripak Selmer case. The sax arrived with an R-series Selmer clarinet in equally magnificent condition. Please contact me if you're also interested in purchasing the clarinet along with the sax. Also included is the original Soloist C mouthpiece plus original cap and ligature.
The 14x,xxx Mark VI altos are considered the very best alto saxophones that Selmer ever produced. Greats including David Sanborn and Kenny Garrett play and collect altos in this s/n range. Selmer experimented with various bow lengths and ultimately went to the medium bow shortly before this one was produced. The medium bow has the best combination of great intonation and excellent tone. For me, the 14x,xxx altos have some extra power, focus and depth to their sound.
