1966 Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, s/n 140898. This sax has its original lacquer with approximately 95% present. It was previously owned by a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra and has clearly been very well cared for over its lifetime.

This alto has the rare vertical MARK VI stamp on the body, which Selmer used for only a short period of around four months, roughly in the 140,xxx–143,xxx serial number range. Many players and collectors consider the late 13x,xxx through 14x,xxx serial range to be one of the best periods for Selmer Mark VI altos. Selmer had recently changed to the medium bow length shortly before this sax was made, which is part of what makes this vintage so desirable. Players including David Sanborn and Kenny Garrett have played and collected altos from this general era.

This sax has about everything you could ask for in a great Mark VI alto. It plays impeccably well, and you can tell it was previously owned by a world-class musician with the ear and experience to choose an exceptional instrument and keep it playing up to its potential. The action and response are extremely even, and the horn has a gorgeous, resonant, complex sound that still has enough presence to carry over a section or combo.

The original neck has never been pulled down. The pads are in great condition overall, seal well, and have most of their life left. The sax comes in its original case, and both zippers work properly.
