1946 Buescher Top Hat and Cane Tenor Saxophone, Original Lacquer
1946 Buescher 400 tenor saxophone, s/n 309408. Commonly referred to as the Top Hat and Cane model for its distinctive engraving, this was Buescher’s top-tier instrument of the period, made alongside the Big B. This example retains its original lacquer, with approximately 90% still present.
The sax still has its snap-in pads and Norton gold springs. It is currently playing very well on a set of pads in excellent condition with plenty of life remaining. It comes in a ProTec case.
This is a very strong playing vintage tenor. It responds easily throughout the full range and will speak softly all the way down to low Bb. Tonally, it has an expansive, resonant sound with a darker character.
