1955 61,xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone. Here is a gorgeous early Mark VI, made just one year after Selmer introduced this model. The horn was overhauled around 12 years ago from USA Horn and saw little playing time after this. The pads are still in great condition and have a lot of life left. The action feels very solid and the keywork feels tight. Although the horn was playing very well when I acquired it, my tech went through it, regulating the pads. The result is fantastic. The horn still plays like it had a recent overhaul, and the pads are sealing perfectly. It has a gorgeous, dark tone that has a ton of resonance and complexity.
This sax has what we believe is an older factory relacquer. The job was done impeccably well. The tone holes all appear perfect and there are no signs of buffing anywhere. The Selmer S on the neck is even blue, which is typically not the case when horns are relacquered. The sax comes in a vintage Selmer Chesterfield case which is in excellent condition overall except for the zippers. One no longer works and the other moves perfectly but needs to be reinserted after opening. This can either be left as-is or repaired.
