1958 Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, s/n 79492. Here is an original lacquer Mark VI with approximately 98% of its lacquer remaining. This is a very rare medium bow, 5-digit horn, which Selmer only produced for about a year before switching to the long bow. Selmer eventually returned to the medium bow nearly a decade later, having found that this version had the best combination of intonation, sound and playability. These 5-digit medium bow altos have that excellent intonation and playability, but have that killer sound that makes this year famous for both altos and tenors. The neck has s/n 58737, made in 1954, the first year of Mark VI production. Although the neck is from a different vintage, the lacquer matches well and it is a great fit for this horn.
The sax is in outstanding physical and playing condition. The previous owner repadded the sax just before I acquired it, so the pads are still in new condition. I had my repairman go over the sax, ensuring that the pads seal well.
