1962 Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone 101,xxx, 97% ORIGINAL LACQUER, CHRIS POTTER S/N
101,xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone with approximately 97% original lacquer. The neck has never been bent down and has the matching s/n. The overall condition of this Mark VI is exceptional. This horn is incredibly well preserved and there's no evidence of any major repairs. A small dent or two may have been taken out of the bow at some point in the past, but that's all the dent work I notice on the sax, which is pretty great for a horn that is 53 years old. My repairman performed a complete overhaul and fitted it with plastic resonators, which is correct for this period of Selmers. A mic pickup in the neck was removed and the repair looks very nicely done with only a small patch needed. Some subtle custom improvements were performed on this sax that are not easily noticeable without being pointed out. If you look closely, you can see that the metal was reinforced under the C and G keys, presumably to reduce any extra flex. Also, the G# mechanism was upgraded with an extra spring under the key mechanism, to prevent the pad from sticking. The articulated G# still functions like it should, so what you get is a G# key that will almost never stick. The sax comes in the original Chesterfield case which is in average/good condition with a broken clasp. Selmer modified their design significantly around 105,xxx, so this is essentially a 5-digit tenor design, as it has the same neck and body design of 9x,xxx tenors.
This horn has a classic 5-digit sound and feel to it. The tone has a lovely intensity that is characteristically dark but with a beautiful palette of complex overtones. The full range of the horn speaks effortlessly.
