1963 105,xxx Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, 85% Original Lacquer!
Here's a 1963 Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone, s/n 105,xxx. This horn has nearly all of its original lacquer, which I'd estimate to be about 85% present. The overall condition of this horn is excellent, showing few signs of wear. The neck is original to the horn and has a matching serial number. There is some lacquer loss on the neck, due to a slight bend down. My repairman gently returned the neck to its original geometry. The repair was done very well, so the neck looks great and feels perfectly round when you run your fingers around it.
This horn is owned by a friend who is a full time DC saxophonist in one of the big bands here in DC. This has been his backup horn for years, and he has decided to sell it because it is just not getting used enough. Eddie Daniels recently used this tenor to record "Inner Lines" on a recent 2012 album, which you can hear on YouTube. Not surprisingly, Eddie sounds amazing on this horn. 105,xxx horns are the exact same design as late 90,xxx horns, so you're getting an identical sax for a lot less money. If you're looking for the best possible playing and sounding Mark VI for a lower price than a 5-digit horn, you'll be hard pressed to do any better than this one.
This sax has been regularly maintained by DC's top repairman. It has plastic resonators, which are correct to this horn, and the pads are in great condition. The horn comes in a top of the line Walt Johnson case.
