1973 Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone – Serial #219215
Here’s a late-model Selmer Mark VI alto in outstanding original condition. The lacquer is original with 99% coverage, showing only minimal signs of wear—very few scratches and no dents. It was just serviced by my technician, and it’s playing effortlessly across the full range with pads sealing well. This is a superb player that plays as good as it looks.
Late Mark VI altos are often sleeper horns—excellent players and strong values. By 1966, Selmer settled on a medium bow length for the alto, striking a sweet spot between great intonation and quick response. This example also includes the optional high F# key, an essential feature for many modern players.
A unique aspect of some late Mark VI altos is the Elkhart factory’s internal modification: a thin sheet of metal added to the upper portion of the inside bow. This slightly reduces internal volume, increasing airstream velocity and improving low note response. This sax has that factory-added insert, visible by looking into the low Eb or C tone holes.
