267,xxx Selmer Mark VII Alto Saxophone, Near Mint, Just Serviced
1977 Selmer Mark VII alto saxophone, s/n 267475. This is one of the cleanest Mark VII altos that has come through the shop. It could almost pass as a new saxophone. The lacquer is original and about 99.9% present. There are zero dings or dents, and only a few very light scratches.
My repairman just serviced the sax, replacing 3 pads, 1 felt, and 1 key cork. He also regulated the remaining pads so everything seals well. I can play easily in all registers. The low range is excellent, and low Bb can whisper without any effort. The sax comes in its original case, which is also in excellent condition.
This is a great playing horn, and it captures the best qualities of a vintage Selmer. The action feels efficient and quick, which makes sense given how little this horn appears to have been played in its lifetime. It has a gorgeous tone that is on the darker side, but there is enough focus to give the horn great projection. I think this horn could be an excellent all around player, from jazz to classical.
Mark VIIs have historically been overlooked because of the success of the Mark VI, but they are capable of being incredible horns. They can also be a superb value given how much a good Mark VI or new Selmer Supreme costs.
