281,xxx Selmer Mark VII Alto Saxophone
1978 Selmer Mark VII alto saxophone, s/n M281930. This is an earlier Mark VII alto with the desirable M serial prefix. The earliest Mark VII altos continued the M prefix that Selmer used during the end of the Mark VI production, before Selmer later moved into the N serial range. Players often prefer these earlier Mark VII altos with the M prefix.
This sax is in excellent overall condition. The lacquer is original, with approximately 95% still present. It was previously owned by a classical saxophone major and has been well cared for. The pads are in great condition overall, and the sax is in great adjustment. It seals well, responds easily, and plays evenly across all registers with excellent intonation.
The sound is on the darker side for a Selmer alto, but it still has plenty of projection when pushed. It has a warm, broad tone that I think works great for both classical and jazz styles. Mark VII altos are some of the best values in vintage Selmers. This alto does a great job of capturing the vintage Selmer vibe at a fraction of the cost of a Mark VI. The sax comes in its original case, which is also in great condition.
