47,xxx Selmer Super Balanced Action SBA Alto Saxophone, Mint Condition
1951 47,xxx Selmer Super Balanced Action alto saxophone with 100% original silver plating. This sax just arrived from the original owner, who surprisingly bought it within the last few years. The story I was told was that the sax was discovered in the back room of a music store in France, never having been sold before. Saxquest got it and performed a full overhaul on it prior to sale. I believe it is 100% flawless, but to be on the safe side, I'll call it 99% flawless. However, I've scoured this sax and haven't seen any blemish yet. The resonators are the original metal reusable resonators.
The sax feels incredible. The action feels like a new sax and it responds well in all registers. The sound has some extra depth that I think is from the silver finish. The sound feels alive and has that vocal quality that I adore in a good SBA. I think this is a great playing horn. The sax comes in its original case, which is very cool. You can go out and buy a new Reference 54 alto for $8000. But my money would rather be spent on a museum piece that's actually from the 1950's.
