192,xxx Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, 90% Original Lacquer
1971 Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, s/n 192740. Here's a wonderful playing Mark VI alto from a great vintage. Horns around the 200,xxx serial number can be fantastic horns, capable of excellent power and projection. Plus, this vintage has a medium bow, which most players prefer for the combination of excellent intonation and sound.
That this sax would be a great crossover horn for both classical and jazz styles. There is some real power typical of this vintage when you push it, but the core of the sound is rich, lush, and slightly on the dark side of the tonal spectrum. The scale and response incredibly even from top to bottom, and the horn speaks effortlessly down to low Bb. The intonation is excellent.
The sax just arrived from its original owner and my tech just serviced the horn prior to this listing. All of the pads have been replaced at some point, and they're currently a mix of newer and older pads, all of which still have a lot of life left. The horn is playing well and is locked in, and I'm confident it won't need anything for years to come. The neck is original to the horn and has never been bent down. The sax comes in a Protec case which is in good condition.
