1967 Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, s/n 151503. Here is a two owner saxophone that was recently overhauled by Ken Beason, one of the very best techs in the business. The overhaul was performed six years ago and the horn received little playing time since then. Ken just performed a full service on the horn prior to sale, regulating the pads which are still in nearly new condition and sealing perfectly. Ken installed his custom made oversized brass resonators. Ken is a great tech to work with, and this horn will include a year of free adjustments from Ken's shop located in Asheville, NC.
The horn is locked in and playing very well from top to bottom. The horn is in great shape overall. The neck is original and has never been pulled down. Ken removed a mic pickup and installed a flush plug in the neck. The sax comes in a gently used ProTec case.
1967 Mark VI altos are considered the very best alto saxophones that Selmer ever produced. Greats including David Sanborn and Kenny Garrett play and collect altos from this vintage. Selmer experimented with various bow lengths and ultimately went to the medium bow shortly before this one was produced. The medium bow has the best combination of great intonation and excellent tone. For me, the 14x,xxx altos have some extra power, focus and depth to their sound.
