Where to find the serial number on a Buffet clarinet

Buffet stamps the serial number on the upper joint and the lower joint, and many instruments carry it on the barrel and bell as well. Use the number on the upper joint. If the upper and lower joints disagree, the parts most likely came from more than one instrument.

The model is not part of the number. R13, RC, Festival, Prestige, Vintage, Tosca and Divine all share the professional sequence and are told apart by the stamp on the joints or the plaque on the bell. An F in front of the number means the instrument was built to A=442 to 444 for European orchestras.
