106,xxx Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone
1963 106,xxx Selmer Mar VI alto saxophone. This sax was just serviced by my repairman prior to sale and it plays incredibly well. The pads were replaced by the previous owner and still look to be in good shape. The sax comes in a Walt Johnson case, which many consider the best case ever made.
This sax has a long bow, which Selmer made from 1959-1966. Characteristically, they tend to have a bit more power and depth to the sound. Intonation is quite good on a long bow. Low C# and C tend to be a bit flat, but the rest of the range is remarkably in tune.
I love this serial number range for both altos and tenors. They are the same design as the late 5-digit serial number range, but can be a fantastic value if you're not chasing a 5-digit horn. The engraving looks perfect on this horn and shows no signs of buffing. However, I'm not 100% sure about the originality of the lacquer, despite the excellent condition of the horn. As such, I've decided to offer this for an insanely low holiday price that means someone will get a fabulous Mark VI for an absolute bargain!
