138,xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone with a high F# and 100% original silver plating. Here's a nearly mint condition Mark VI alto sax that has nearly all of its original silver plating intact. I have never come across a mark VI of this age in such good condition. Selmer experimented with different alto bow lengths, and ultimately settled on a medium bow, just before this saxophone was made. These altos have established a reputation as being some of the finest altos that Selmer ever produced, and greats such as David Sanborn and Kenny Garrett play altos in this range.
The sax was just overhauled (Oct, 2015) with domed plastic resonators, correct for this period of Mark VI. This is one of the very best playing Mark VI altos I've ever played. The horn is certainly an extrovert, with a huge, punchy sound that is fitting for this vintage. But the silver plating gives it a tremendous core with some beautiful and complex overtones. I have come to adore jazz horns with a silver finish. There's something in the sound that is neither bright or dark, which is incredibly pleasing to play and listen to. There are many pro saxophonists who prefer silver, and this horn certainly delivers that extra x-factor.
