139,xxx Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, Fresh Overhaul, Video
1966 Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone, s/n 139848. This sax just received a top of the line overhaul from Eric Beach, who does fantastic repair work. The tenor arrived having been previously relacquered, although it was done well, as the engraving was still deep and the tone holes were not buffed. My guess is the previous owner relacquered the horn after removing the old Varitone parts.
Eric had the tenor chemically stripped of lacquer and meticulously hand finished before receiving its overhaul. I've included some close-ups of the front of the neck, showing the expert work done to remove the old microphone pickup and install a flush metal plug. These Varitone necks are special and play a lot like an 8x,xxx neck. There is no lacquer left on the horn, and I expect it to darken over time, much like an unlacquered 82Z takes on a darker finish over time. The sax will ship in a new Bam Cabine case.
