149,xxx Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, 96% Original Lacquer, SANBORN S/N
149,xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone. Here's a beautiful original lacquer horn with approximately 96% remaining. The color has taken on a beautiful golden honey tone. My tech just performed a full setup, replacing a handful of pads. The others are good and still have a lot of life left in them. The neck is original and in excellent condition. My tech also performed some minor dentwork in the body, and everything is now straight and as it should be. The sax comes in the original hard gray Selmer case. It's in good overall condition. The zippers both work, but the tab has broken off of both of them.
The late 13x,xxx to 14x,xxx s/n range is widely considered to be the very best alto saxophones that Selmer ever produced. Greats including David Sanborn and Kenny Garrett play and collect altos in this range. Selmer experimented with various bow lengths and ultimately went to the medium bow shortly before this one was produced. The medium bow has the best combination of great intonation and excellent tone. For me, the 14x,xxx altos have some extra power, focus and depth to their sound. This one is a great example. The entire range of the horn pops out and the tone is incredibly centered and powerful. This is a world class alto.
