1912 Buescher Bb Curved Soprano Saxophone
1912 Buescher Bb soprano saxophone, s/n 16094. Her's a 110 year old saxophone that is still in great physical and playing condition. Just above the serial number, the saxophone is stamped "LP", indicating low pitch, which allows it to play in tune with modern instruments. It's keyed down to low Bb and up to high Eb.
My tech just serviced this saxophone prior to sale. He regulated the pads ensuring that they are sealing well, and replaced five key corks and the neck cork. He also cleaned the sax, removing a lot of the tarnish. The pads are on the old side, but seem to be holding up well.
This is a fun horn to play. It's certainly a departure from modern sopranos. The sound is quite warm and round. The ergonomics are decent especially considering the age of the horn. The high D and Eb keys are somewhat awkward at first, but the sax has a modern Bb mechanism (side, bis and 1/4 1/5 as options) and importantly a neck strap ring unlike a Mark VI. Included is a vintage mouthpiece that may be the original, although unmarked.
