1937 24,xxx Selmer Balanced Action Alto Saxophone
1937 24,xxx Selmer Balanced Action alto saxophone. Here's an early Balanced Action that is in excellent condition overall. The previous owner replaced all of the pads right before he sold it and they are in new/unused condition. My tech just serviced the sax, so it's playing very well from top to bottom. I don't believe the lacquer is original mainly due to its color, but the engraving detail is all there and it really pops. It looks to have been redone a long time ago. The sax comes in its original case, which functions. Some of the wood has separated over time and the outer covering has frayed in places. Both latches still work.
The horn has a beautiful sound. It has a dark, mellow core that has plenty of harmonic richness. When you play loudly, the sound keeps its integrity without spreading. It could excel in both classical and jazz styles. What a lovely sounding early BA!
