1948 Martin Committee Tenor Saxophone, "The Martin"
1948 166,xxx Martin Committee tenor saxophone. This sax recently arrived with a set of older pads and what appears to be an older non-original coat of lacquer. The overall shape of the horn is quite good for its age. There are some dings present and one on the bottom of the bow, but I see no resolders or any signs of significant damage. The neck has a 152,xxx serial number on it. The sax comes in a Saxpack case. These are super minimal hard shell cases that are incredibly lightweight. Of course, the sax will be carefully packed up and cushioned inside and outside the case when shipped.
The sax can play up and down with extra effort, but my recommendation is that it needs a full repad before it's in prime playing condition. As such, we are offering this horn as-is with the expectation that it needs substantial work or an overhaul before it's ready to go. Even without one, it's already apparent that this horn has a charming, lovely sound that is unmistakably Martin.
