1951 47,xxx Selmer Super Balanced Action tenor saxophone. Here is an incredible playing SBA that just received a full overhaul from my tech. This is a unique horn, as the previous owner upgraded the neck to an early Mark VI neck. The "S" logo is black, which indicates that this is most likely from the early 1960's. This black "S" color shows up in the 9x,xxx Mark VI's, so it comes from a pretty incredible range of Mark VI production. So you're getting a neck that's never been bent down, from one of the very best periods that Mark VI's were produced. The result of this combination is fantastic. The horn captures what is great about both the Mark VI and SBA. It has that incredible full, warmth but with some extra intensity and projection from the neck. All in all, this is a top shelf horn. The lacquer isn't original, but whoever relacquered it did a great job. The engraving is almost 100% present indicating that the horn wasn't heavily buffed. Also, the tone holes look excellent and undamaged. The case is vintage and in decent condition, but not a Selmer case.
