1954 56,xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone with approximately 97% original lacquer. This beautiful horn is currently in the hands of my repairman getting overhauled. It should be ready to ship in December. Please contact me for a specific availability date.
This is an early Mark VI alto saxophone, made in the first year of Mark VI production. These are incredibly responsive, expressive horns, which tend to have a dark core with a sweetness to the sound that later Mark VI's don't capture.
The overall condition is great. The body looks quite clean, although it looks like the bow has been worked on a bit. Although the neck is a great match for this horn, it has a 75,xxx serial number. Many players would switch out the original neck for a better playing one, which could have happened here. It appears as if the neck and horn have been together most of their lives, as the color is a great match.
