1954 56,xxx Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, 97% Original Lacquer, WOW!
1954 56,xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone with approximately 97% original lacquer. Here's an incredibly preserved sax that was of one of the first Mark VI's Selmer made. The sax is in incredible original condition, with very little wear from regular use. The lacquer is a beautiful dark honey brown. The sax was recently acquired from the nephew of the original owner, who was a professional saxophonist. The neck is in perfect condition without any pulldown, and with the matching serial number. The sax comes in the original Chesterfield case, which is in excellent condition.
The sax has a mix of older and newer pads, and would most likely benefit from a full overhaul or substantial repair work to return to optimal playing condition. Even though it could benefit from some regulation, it's already apparent that this is an incredible horn. The tone and feel has a lot in common with a late SBA, but with a bit more punch and projection. The sax seems remarkably tonally centered in all registers and takes on air remarkably evenly.
