1958 Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, Medium Bow, Near Mint, WOW
1958 Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, s/n 77771. Here is a stunning 5-digit medium bow Mark VI alto that has 99%+ original lacquer. This is a very rare medium bow, 5-digit horn, which Selmer only produced for about a year before switching to the long bow. Selmer eventually returned to the medium bow nearly a decade later, having found that this version had the best combination of intonation, sound and playability. These 5-digit medium bow altos have excellent intonation and playability, and have that killer sound that makes this vintage famous for both altos and tenors.
As stunning as this sax looks, it's an even more impressive player. The previous owner gave it a top of the line overhaul, using Pisoni Pro pads and reusing the original domed metal rivetless resonators. The sax feels tight and locked in, with an absolute killer sound. It's super even from top to bottom, and there is a stunning amount of projection and resonance wrapped around a dark core.
The sax has been very well cared for. The neck is original to the sax and has a matching serial number. The sax comes in a top of the line Bam l'Etoile Cabine alto saxophone case, which retails for $800+.
