1966 Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, 85% Original Lacquer
1966 Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, s/n 131,xxx with approximately 85% original lacquer. This is a very nice playing 1966 long bow Mark VI. The condition of the horn overall is excellent. There is some lacquer loss from honest playing and there are a few dents that were removed on the bow and above the neck strap ring, but it's otherwise in very solid shape. The bell flare is perfect and the neck is original to the horn and structurally perfect. These long bow horns have an extra bit of depth and presence due to the slightly elongated bow. I really like how this one plays.
I should note that despite the neck being 100% original to the horn, the second number is a 2 instead of a 3 (121,xxx vs 131,xxx). All other numbers match (including the last three). Sure enough, after contacting Selmer in Paris, it was confirmed the neck has to be original the horn: the 121,xxx s/n stamped on the neck is actually a tenor serial number that was sold in Holland (I would be happy to forward this interesting email from Selmer to the new owner). Selmer also informed me that the exact day of manufacture was Feb 25, 1966, which means it will be celebrating its 50th birthday in just a few days!
The horn was serviced by my repairman who replaced a handful of pads. The end result is excellent, and nothing will be needed on this horn for awhile.
This horn comes with a Selmer USA Bundy case which is in good condition. However, please message me if you're interested in purchasing this saxophone with a new Bam Case. DC Sax is now a Bam dealer and we can give you a great deal on a new Bam case with the purchase of this saxophone.
