1966 SML Gold Medal I Alto Saxophone, 95% Original Lacquer, Video
1966 19,xxx SML Gold Medal alto saxophone with approximately 95% original lacquer. Most consider the Gold Medal I model SML's finest saxophone they ever made. It features rolled tone holes, high F# and elaborate engraving. The keywork feels very smooth and solid, thanks to the rolled tone holes. This is considered a Mark I, which is more sought after than the later Mark II.
My tech just performed a full service on the horn. He removed two dings from the bell and regulated the pads, which are sealing well but are old. The horn plays effortlessly down to low Bb and has very warm, rich and even scale. Most of the lacquer is missing from the neck, but it is in good condition and has never been bent down. The overall condition of the saxophone is excellent considering it's over 50 years old.
