Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, Fresh Overhaul
211,xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone. Here's a horn that has just received an overhaul from my repairman, using top of the line parts. The sax is set up with Pisoni Pro pads and original screw back Selmer plastic resonators, which are what this horn originally came with. The sax comes in the original case. Both zippers still work, although the metal flaps have broken off.
The sax has a distinctive look because its lacquer was just chemically stripped. My repairman then meticulously hand polished the horn to remove any extra remaining lacquer. It had been previously relacquered, but as you can see, there's plenty of engraving detail still left. My repairman checked and leveled the tone holes as needed, so the pads are sealing perfectly and the horn feels very tight. Since the horn has just been stripped of its lacquer, the color is likely to change over time into a darker matte finish. I am guessing that it will end up looking a lot like a well used Yamaha 82ZUL. This is already a beautiful looking horn that I think will just improve over time.
The horn plays very well from top to bottom, and has a very nice tonal core with great projection. Plus, this is a medium bow Mark VI, which is widely considered as having the best combination of intonation and playing characteristics.
