1974 231,xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone with approximately 90% original lacquer. This sax arrived from its longtime owner who used this saxophone during her school days and then put away in its case for the next several years. The pads were replaced and are still in good condition with a lot of life left in them. This sax has the optional high F# key, which is a must for many players.
This saxophone has a medium bow, which Selmer experimented with in the 1950's and eventually landing on the design for good in 1966/1967. This bow design has the best combination of excellent intonation and sound production. These later Mark VI's are an incredible value and can be every bit as good as their earlier counterparts.
My tech just performed a full service on this horn, regulating the pads so they seal perfectly from top to bottom. He performed some very minor dentwork, replaced the neck cork, and several key corks and felts. The result is a horn that feels locked in with a very quiet and smooth mechanism across all registers.
This is a wonderful sounding horn that has great energy, focus and projection. I consider it medium bright, and there's great clarity and focus. When you want to push the sound, it will give you everything that you ask for, while keeping its tonal balance.
