Buffet Crampon S1 Super Dynaction Transitional Alto Saxophone, Near Mint, Overhaul
1974 Buffet S1 Super Dynaction alto saxophone, s/n 22201. This is the cleanest vintage Buffet I’ve ever seen. It looks like it was manufactured yesterday despite being over 50 years old. There are no dents and very few signs of wear. The lacquer is original and in wonderful condition.
My repairman just serviced the horn. He replaced the neck cork and regulated the pads so they seal well. It’s difficult to determine exactly how old the pads are, but they look like they’ve barely been played and should have plenty of life left.
Although the body tube is engraved “Super Dynaction,” this sax has full S1 keywork, including the distinctive pinky mechanisms. Because of that, I think it is more accurately described as an early S1 or transitional Super Dynaction/S1.
This is a great sounding vintage alto with a more delicate and lyrical voice than a Selmer from the same period. The sound is focused and even between registers.
The sax comes in its original case along with some original paperwork.
