1973 Buffet Super Dynaction Tenor Saxophone, Video, Original Lacquer
1973 Buffet Crampon Super Dynaction tenor saxophone, s/n 20453. The original lacquer is around 99% and the horn looks fantastic. The pads are in excellent shape, many of them new, and everything seals well. The horn plays easily from top to bottom. It comes in a ProTec case which is also in great condition. This sax was previously owned by a member of the United States Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, MD, who kept his instruments in excellent playing condition.
The sound is what sets these horns apart. It's big and full with a lot of depth, and it reminds me a bit of a 10M but with more refinement. The core stays centered whether you're playing soft or pushing hard, and it works well on both classical and jazz styles. Buffet made far fewer of these than Selmer made Mark VIs, which is the main reason the model isn't better known. This is a late production example, made shortly before Buffet moved to the S1. For the money, it's a strong value compared to Selmers in similar condition and vintage.
