Conn 10M Tenor Saxophone, Double Socket Neck
1960 Conn 10M tenor saxophone, s/n 873775. This sax has its original lacquer, which is in excellent overall condition. It was previously owned by a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
This horn is a great example of why the Conn 10M has such a good reputation, even for a later vintage like this one. The sound has a lot of spread, depth, and warmth, and it fills the room in a way that feels very natural. It has the broad, dark, huge, velvet tone that makes a good 10M so fun to play.
This horn has a double-socket neck. This is a desirable and less common 10M variation that Conn only made for a few years. It is hard to say exactly how much this contributes to the sound, but this horn has a very secure, resonant feel, with an especially strong low register and a big, centered response.
The saxophone has new pads and is playing very well from top to bottom. The response is even and the low notes speak easily. You can tell that it was owned by a pro by how well the horn is set up. The action and response are very even throughout the entire range. The sax comes in a ProTec case.
