Gold Plated 94,xxx Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, High F#, Video, WOW!
1961 gold-plated Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone, s/n 94645. Here is an incredibly rare gold-plated, American-engraved Mark VI tenor, made during one of the best eras of Mark VI tenor production.
This saxophone came from a professional player, and it's clear that he kept his horns in top playing condition. It was recently overhauled by the previous owner. The pads appear to be Pisoni Pros and are still in nearly new condition. My repairman just serviced the horn, ensuring that the pads seal perfectly. The sax is easy to play throughout all registers.
The sax has an optional high F# key, which was a relatively rare addition at the time. The neck has a matching serial number and has never been pulled down. The gold plating appears to be original, with no signs of buffing anywhere. I took the sax to two different repairmen who have an excellent eye for identifying original finishes, and both agreed that the plating is likely original.
This is a great playing horn. It is very responsive throughout all registers, and the low notes pop out easily and without effort. There is an openness and richness to the sound that only a gold plated horn can achieve. It is truly a stunning instrument to both see and play.
