Purple Label Yamaha YAS-61, Near Mint, Just Serviced
Yamaha YAS-61 alto saxophone. This is the precursor to the 62 model, and arguably what put Yamaha on the map as a serious saxophone manufacturer. This sax is in excellent original condition, and shows very little wear for a saxophone nearly 50 years old. My tech just serviced the horn, replacing 3 pads and 2 key corks. The sax plays effortlessly from top to bottom. It comes in its original case, which is also in excellent condition.
This is a great playing horn. It feels unmistakably like a Yamaha, with superb ergonomics and tonal evenness and clarity in all registers. The sound is a bit more clear and focused than a 62, but very pleasing.
